All I can say is, Wow! The inaugural High Point Rockers season is officially over and what a year it was. I could easily sit here and talk about the 74 wins this team captured, second most of any expansion team in Atlantic League history, or the seven All-Stars we had, second most of any team this year, or even the fact that your High Point Rockers became the first expansion team in league history to reach the playoffs, but I won’t. Instead, I want to take this moment and give a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone involved in this incredibly historic year.
To Dr. Nido R. Qubein and everyone involved with Forward High Point and Economic Development Corporation, THANK YOU! With Dr. Qubein’s passion, leadership and vigor, as well as FHP and the EDC’s commitment to what this City can become, this vision is now real, and it is spectacular!
To our City Council, led by Mayor Jay Wagner, THANK YOU! Without the foresight of this council, and their will to make an idea an actual, we would not be here. I look forward to working with you all in the future to build a better High Point.
To our Corporate Partners, including BB&T, High Point University, Old Dominion Freight Line, Culp, IMC, Vann York Auto Mall, Wake Forest Baptist Health, Bethany Medical Center, Blue Ridge Companies, Coca-Cola Consolidated, R.H. Barringer and many more, THANK YOU! Your partnership means the world to us. The opportunity to work alongside you to grow our businesses together with the goal of a stronger High Point is truly an honor.
To the Board of Directors of High Point Baseball, chaired by Coy Williard, THANK YOU! The personal sacrifice you all made in helping this dream come true really is something. Not to mention, the confidence you have put in this staff to create what you all envisioned is beyond words.
Speaking of this staff, THANK YOU! Susan Ormond, Matt Scott, Caroline Cooling, Leighton Foster, Matthew McCree, Mackenzie Barnes, Shane Poling, James Jackson, Ashley Kearns, Molly Sobb, David Martin, Caroline Keating, Howard Sadel, Tyler Runyon and all our game day employees, THANK YOU! Each one of you had a hand in building this and accomplished something truly historic. I am so proud of all of you and look forward to building upon the success of this year with you.
Lastly, and maybe most importantly, to the fans and residents of High Point, THANK YOU! Our ballpark may be part of the Catalyst Project, but you are the spark that will light the flame that will make our city shine. That’s right, OUR city. We are YOUR team and everything we do is to make you proud to call High Point home. Many of you witnessed my fiancée and I get engaged on the field on September 14th. The reason I wanted to share that moment with you all, and why Steph and I are so excited to start our life together here, is because of how this city has opened its arms to us. We may not be from here, but make no mistake, High Point is home.
A revitalized downtown High Point is on the horizon. Now, we get to build upon our successes and truly make something special. I’m excited to do that with all of you, starting this offseason with some special events, and when the season begins next April, I look forward to welcoming you all back and cheering on the team in 2020.
Until then, THANK YOU and let’s #KeepRocking!
