Rockers win brings series tie leading up to the holiday

High Point, NC - Rockers Catcher Matthew Jones is awarded the hero of the night for his sacrifice-single into center field, scoring third baseman Hector Gomez in the bottom of the 9th inning, bringing in the Rockers win, 4-3.

Lancaster got on the board first with a double from right-fielder Caleb Gindl and a sacrifice-fly from first baseman K.C. Hobson in the top of the 1st inning.

The Barnstormer’s shortstop, Michael Martinez, hit a single line-drive to the Rocker’s Myles Schroder, giving Lancaster the 3-point lead in the top of the 2nd inning.

High Point came back with a single from Gomez, scoring designated hitter Quincey Latimore, and a grounded force-out from Jones, scoring left fielder Richie Shaffer in the bottom inning, bringing the score to 3-2.

After 6 scoreless innings, a double from Shaffer and single from Gomez ties up the game, concluding with Jones’ walkoff hit. Both Jones and Gomez went 3-for-4 for the night, while right-hander Sam Runion earns his 3rd win of the season.

The Rockers continue their Fourth of July homestand tomorrow against the Barnstormers, with post-game 3D fireworks, at 6:30pm at BB&T Point. For tickets, visit or call (336) 888-1000.
