High Point, NC - In this weeks Highway To Highpoint, we take a look at Rockers infielder Tyler Ladendorf and his journey to BB&T Point.
Ladendorf began his career at Maine West High School located in Des Plaines, Illinois and was drafted by the New York Yankees following his graduation in 2006. He did not sign with the Yankees and opted to continue his education at Howard Junior College in Big Spring, Texas.
He was drafted in 2007 by the San Francisco Giants but once again did not sign with the team. In 2008 he was drafted 60th overall by the Minnesota Twins and signed with the team on June 8th.
Ladendorf spent the next three years bouncing between minor league teams before he was traded to the Oakland Athletics in a deal for shortstop Orlando Cabrera. In his minor league career, Ladendorf had 2,883 at bats with an average of .251 and an on base percentage of .327.
Of his 2,883 at bats, he managed 40 home runs and 313 RBIs that paired nicely with his defensive versatility.
On April 8th, 2015, he made his major league debut for the Athletics. He finished the day going one for three with a two RBI triple and a walk.
Ladendorf became a defensive staple for the Athletics, playing multiple positions varying from shortstop and second base to all three positions in the outfield. His reliability and versatility on the defensive side of the ball made him a recurring starter in Oakland for two seasons before accepting free agency in November of 2016.
The Chicago White Sox signed Ladendorf in February of 2017 where he began playing for their minor league affiliate the Charlotte Knights. While playing for the Knights, Ladendorf had 21 RBIs and two home runs with a batting average of .250.
By the end of 2017, Ladendorf had elected for free agency and signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. He spent a couple months in Canada playing for the Vancouver Canadians and then the Buffalo Bisons before getting traded to the Jackson Generals.
Since signing with the Rockers in April of 2019, Ladendorf has a batting average of .260 and nine home runs. He is a crucial member of the Rockers defense and a veteran leader within the locker room.
