High Point, NC — The High Point Rockers defeat the New Britain Bees 6 to 5 after a 3 run rally in the bottom of the 8th. The win resulted in the Rockers winning the 3-game series over the Bees. A pivotal series win moves the Rockers into second place in the Liberty division.
The Rockers found themselves down by two runs heading into the bottom of the 8th. Tyler Marincov, who joined the team on Friday, started the rally by sending a ball out of BB&T Point for a solo home run. Hector Gomez tied the game by launching a double into deep center field which drove in Stephen Cardullo. The Rockers took the lead on a line drive single from Richie Shaffer to bring in Gomez.
Three outs were still needed in the 9th for the Rockers to win the game and the series. Trevor Frank ended any hope of the Bees making a comeback of their own. Frank retired the side in order, and capped off his 9th save of the season with a strikeout
The Rockers were down early to the Bees. After a leadoff triple by New Britain’s Taylor Motter in the top of the 2nd, the Bees began the scoring via a sacrifice ground out by Jared James. Later in the inning, Bijan Rademacher hit a solo homerun to right field. The Rockers put up three runs in the fourth with an RBI single from Gomez and a double off the wall by Richie Shaffer that brought in two Runs.
The Rockers were led offensively by Richie Shaffer, who went 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Hector Gomez followed suit going 2-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Tyler Marincov hit his first homerun of the season and finished 2-3 at the plate.
The winning pitcher of the rubber game today was Daniel Gibson who came on in relief in the 8th and Trevor Frank earned the save.
