High Point, NC- The High Point Rockers welcomed the Long Island Ducks to BB&T Point for the second game of the three game series, taking the loss. Despite a few stellar plays throughout the game, the Rockers came up short in the end, falling 7-0.
In the first inning, the Rockers were able to keep no runs on the board with the help of an incredible play by Quincy Latimore. Latimore made a diving catch and somersaulted into the outfield party area, recording the second out of the inning. Hector Gomez was on fire catching three foul ball tips throughout the game, putting up outs in the second and sixth innings.
In the seventh inning, Ladendorf singles to center field getting the first Rockers hit of the game, breaking up Sean Nolin’s no-hitter. Myles Schroder and Josh Mazzola both had hits in the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, the Rockers go down swinging, but not before getting a lead-off single by Michael Baca. The Rockers still were not able to put any runs on the board resulting in a 7-0 loss to the Ducks.
The winning pitcher was Sean Nolin (4-0) for the Ducks, who was able to pitch six no-hit innings. Stephen Johnson (2-1) would be handed his first loss of the season, pitching six straight innings and picking up one back to back strikeout in the top of the fifth inning. Chase Huchingson came in for the eighth inning for a quick three outs keeping the Ducks from scoring any more runs.
The Rockers will play the Ducks for the third and final game in the series tomorrow at 6:30 p.m at BB&T Point Stadium. With the series currently split at one win for each team, tomorrow will decide who takes the overall win.
