High Point, NC - The High Point Rockers sweep the series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Sunday, with a walk-off home run by second baseman Tyler Ladendorf in the bottom of the 9th inning. The 4-3 win grants High Point their 6th straight win and the largest current streak in the Atlantic League.
The Rockers had a strong start in the first three innings of the game. Third baseman Hector Gomez hit a sacrifice-fly in the first inning bringing in Ladendorf for the run. Designated hitter Brett Austin, hit a single into center field to score Breland Almadova in the second inning, while Gomez comes back to hit a line-drive to center field, scoring Almadova in the third inning.
The Blue Crabs fought back in the 6th inning. Southern Maryland’s left fielder, Tony Thomas, hit a two-run home-run off of High Point’s Sam Runion. The Blue Crab’s designated hitter Craig Maddox, hit a single into left field, scoring center fielder Cory Vaughn.
In the bottom of the 9th inning tied 3-3, Ladendorf hit a walk-off solo home-run into left field to win it for the Rockers. Right-hander, Trevor Frank earns the win, while Southern Maryland’s Mat Latos receives his 3rd loss of the season.
