High Point, NC – The High Point Rockers continued their undefeated streak at home, defeating the Sugar Land Skeeters 3-1. Tyler Ladendorf and Quincy Latimore led the charge for the Rockers en route to their second consecutive victory.
In the second inning, Ladendorf and Giovanny Alfonzo made a double play to bring the Rockers of out a jam. With the bases loaded, Dante Bichette Jr. was walked, allowing a run for the Rockers giving them a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Ladendorf hit a single which allowed Shane Opitz to bring in the second run of the game. The Skeeters manager Pete Incaviglia was ejected in the eighth inning after a close run was allowed by the home plate umpire, sparking a verbal disagreement.
The winning pitcher tonight was Seth Simmons, while Kevin McGowan picked up the loss. Kyle Halbohn came in to pitch for Simmons in the sixth inning, allowing Alvaro Rondon to score off a lead-off triple to cut the Rockers lead 2-1. The Rockers headed into the ninth inning with a two run lead, and Trevor Frank sealed the win for the Rockers, recording his third save of the season.
The Rockers return to BB&T Point tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. for game three of the four-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
