Bridgewater Township, NJ – The High Point Rockers had a lot to celebrate after their first game against the Somerset Patriots. In what was a back and forth battle on the mound between Paul Clemens and Thomas Dorminy early on, Clemens was on track to pitching a no-hitter. The Rockers dominated the game and left TD Bank Ballpark with a 4-0 victory.
Paul Clemens pitched a total of six innings in Monday’s win, striking out two batters enroute to his first victory of the season. Thomas Dorminy was handed his first loss of the 2019 season after playing a total of four innings, allowing 4 hits, two runs and one walk.
The scoring didn’t take place for the Rockers until the third inning when Breland Almadova hit a triple on the fly ball to right field, allowing Giovanny Alfonzo to bring in the first run of the game for the Rockers. Tyler Ladendorf hit a ground ball to second base, allowing Almadova to score a run, giving the Rockers a two run lead at the end of the third inning. In the top of the sixth inning, Quincy Latimore doubled on a line drive to left field, allowing Myles Schroder and Hector Gomez to bring in the final two runs of the game.
The Rockers will return to TD Bank Ballpark tomorrow for their second game of the three game series. The Rockers will play their home opener on Thursday May 2nd against the defending ALPB champion Sugar Land Skeeters. That game starts a seven-game homestand with exciting themes and promotions throughout.
