Lancaster, PA - Friday’s Opening Day at Clipper Magazine Stadium was one to remember for the High Point Rockers, who opened their inaugural season with a 7-1 victory. Friday’s loss is tied for the worst Opening Day loss by the Barnstormers in franchise history (6-0 loss to Blue Crabs in 2012). Friday’s game was played under the lights in a windy Lancaster, Pennsylvania, creating a bad mix for the Barnstormers who had five total errors on pop-ups.
Joey Terdoslavich grounded a double play, allowing his teammate Darian Sandford to score for the Barnstormers at the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Rockers refused to let the Barnstormers keep their 1-0 in the top of the 4th inning. Tyler Ladendorf hit the first home run in franchise history on a line drive to left field, allowing Ladendorf and Shane Opitz to bring in the first two runs in history for the Rockers. For the majority of the game, it remained a one run differential.
In the top of the 7th inning, Hector Gomez got out on a fly ball to left field. Although Gomez took the out, Tyler Ladendorf scored his second run of the game. With a 3-1 lead in the top of the 7th inning, the Rockers didn’t look back. Brett Austin scored on a Barnstormers error while Giovanny Alfonzo, Josh Mazzola and Tyler Ladendorf scored on a double by Hector Gomez.
Tyler Ladendorf had an impressive performance Friday night, racking up three runs, two hits and two RBI’s on the night. Ashur Tolliver was granted the win, improving his record to 1-0, while Jonathan Albaladejo was handed the loss for the Barnstormers.
The Rockers and Barnstormers will be back in action tomorrow at 7pm at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster for the second game of the three game series. The Rockers will host their Opening Day on May 2nd at 7pm at BB&T Point in High Point, NC against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
